Do you feel naked without earrings? I do. Casual earrings or dressy earrings. So that is why I love making earrings with my lampwork glass beads, Czech glass beads or Humblebeads polymer clay beads!
There are all types of earrings for all types of people. Lately I’ve been making Art Nouveau inspired earrings. They are lightweight and airy and can be dressy or not. I took a class by Humblebeads on creative methods and one was all about Art Nouveau. Another type of earring is the funky, colorful or asymmetrical earrings. It is hard for me to do asymmetrical but once and a while I do it. And the edgy earring cuffs which are fun to wear! My collection has several.
Recently I read about a new trend called “mermaidcore” which I guess is bright, bold colors. I can do that with glass colors. Mermaidcore also includes starfish, pearls, water related things. Guess I should try some mermaid earrings and necklaces. Another trend at the moment is “80’s Style.” These are yellow gold with large gems and vintage style details. When looking at these trends I have to determine how I will design with these ideas in mind.
I always use sterling silver, gold or brass (without nickel). Since I sell jewelry on Beaver Island (in the middle of Lake Michigan) I already like to style beachy type jewelry. We won’t talk about color here as that is a whole other subject. Check out BeaverIslandJewelry.com earrings!
