For being a city with hardly any grass or trees there seems to be a lot of dogs. Many are the little dogs carried around by their owners but then I’ve seen a Burnese Mountain Dog also. Just saw this Mountain Dog tonight by the Doges Palace in St Marks Square.
Most of the dogs we see are little guys….lots of terriers and Jack Russel Terriors are everywhere.
People love their dogs here, you see lots of art items with dog themes. Dogs can go into restaurants and shops and onto the vaporettos. The other day I was on a very very crowded vaporettos with 2 little daschounds. They seemed to be use to it.
The Bouvier was seen last year. I have not seen him this time but haven’t been in that neighborhood as much.
The above photos show the dogs patiently waiting to get on the vaporetto after the people rush off the vaporetto. And one little beagle type sitting patiently while mom has an espresso!
There are not many cats here unless they are house cats. I saw a shop cat today but haven’t seen any others. The City of Venice apparently says they spayed all the feral cats, of which Venice was full of, then moved them to some other island. Just lions, the symbol of Venice, remains.
The little dog by the hats I saw this evening; he was so very cute!
Ciao!
